Chemical Peels

Treats: Scars,Wrinkles

What are Chemical Peels?

Chemical peels, sometimes referred to as ‘skin’ peels, work by exfoliating the outer layer of skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines, age spots and acne.  The solution removes the dull top layers of skin to reveal healthy new cells underneath helping promote production of collagen and elastin.

In the clinic we use Epiderma5, a range made in the UK, which combines natural and cosmeceutical ingredients in free-from fragrance products.

The process takes around 20 minutes, and redness remains for a few days, but you can return to normal physical activities immediately.

Chemical peels can be used in combination with other aesthetic treatments but not in the same session and can be repeated every 4 – 6 weeks.

Aftercare

Following treatment, redness may be visible for several days. You should avoid using harsh cleansers or topical medication and direct sunlight for 5 – 7 days. We advise on what products to use post procedure to optimise the effect of the treatment. We always advise use of SPF 30+ following your treatment.

Timing

The chemical peel procedure takes around 20 minutes. Depending on skin condition, these can be repeated every 4 – 6 weeks.

Why not?

There are some instances when we advise not to undergo chemical peels. These include:

  • If you are pregnant or breast feeding
  • If you have a local skin infection or any lesions in the area being treated
  • If you have had an aesthetic treatment within the last 14 days
  • If you have taken Roaccutane in the last 6 months
  • If you have had recent laser treatment in the last month
  • If you have skin allergies
  • If you are prone to keloid scarring

Potential Complications

Complications are infrequent, but can include:

  • Redness or blotchiness
  • Hyperpigementation may occur – this should resolve itself
  • Localised skin infection
